Abstract

This research examines two (2) speeches of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu using the stylistic framework of Leech and Short (1987). The study adopts a qualitative approach to explore the stylistic components of the thematic concerns that foreground issues critical to the author's perception of governance and nationhood. These stylistic choices can be identified via governance and crises. The study postulates that both user-bound and situation-bound factors influence the linguistic choice of the socio-political reality of Nigeria as depicted through a stylistic exploration. The diction of the speech is carefully tailored to ensure national integration and cohesion across the political landscape of Nigeria. Ultimately, the resources of language are demonstrated to be an essential component of speech meaning, thereby enhancing the precision of interpretation and facilitating a deeper understanding of the texts.
